Free Printable Farm Worksheets for Preschool

My free printable farm worksheets for preschool give children a mix of tracing, counting, matching, and cutting activities, all with familiar farm animals, tractors, and barns.

The worksheets are best suited to preschoolers who are learning to recognize numbers, control a pencil, and follow simple instructions. Children who aren’t ready for word tracing can still enjoy the coloring, matching, and cut and paste activities with a little help.

What’s included in the farm worksheets?

I’ve included several different activities so children can practice more than one skill while sticking with the farm theme.

  • Tracing lines and farm animal words: Children follow four different tractor paths to the barn, then practice tracing the words sheep, horse, cow, and pig.
  • Counting farm animals: Count groups of animals and trace numbers from 1 to 10. There’s also a separate activity where children count the animals and circle the correct number.
  • Matching and patterns: Match sheep, cows, horses, and pigs to their shadows, then complete simple repeating animal patterns by tracing the missing picture.
  • Cut and paste: Cut out four farm animals and glue them inside the barn. The animal pictures have dashed cutting boxes to help guide little hands.
  • Farm puzzles and coloring: Help a tractor find its way through a maze, look for differences between two farm scenes, and color a picture of a barn and its surroundings.

I like having different kinds of activities in one set because you can choose what fits the child that day. There’s no need to complete every worksheet or work through them in a particular order.

Practicing early preschool skills with farm animals

The counting worksheets are a good place to start if your child is working on numbers. Have them point to each animal as they count, then trace the matching number. The final counting activity gives them a chance to recognize and choose the number without tracing it.

For pencil practice, start with the tractor paths. Children get to follow straight, zigzag, and curved lines before moving on to tracing animal names.

The shadow matching and pattern pages give children a different challenge. They’ll need to look carefully at the shapes of the animals and recognize which animal comes next in a repeating sequence.

I would save the barn cut and paste worksheet for a day when there’s time to sit together. Children can practice cutting around the animal pictures and decide where to glue each one. If cutting is still difficult, prepare the pieces beforehand and let them focus on arranging and gluing the animals.

Getting the worksheets ready

Most of the farm worksheets only need printing and a pencil or crayons. For the barn activity, you’ll also need child-safe scissors and a glue stick.

I’d print one or two activities at a time rather than handing over the entire pack. The counting and tracing pages work nicely as short morning activities, while the maze, coloring, and matching pages are good choices when you want something with less writing.

For younger preschoolers, it’s fine to work through a page together. You can point out the animals, say their names, and demonstrate the first example before letting your child continue.

More farm activities for preschool

If you’re planning a longer farm theme, my Farm Unit Study for Pre-K and Kindergarten takes things further with activities about farm animals, crops, farm tools, and where food comes from.

For more hands-on practice, try the farm animal playdough mats. Children can use playdough to form animal names, making them a nice follow-up to the word tracing worksheet.

You can also add some letter practice with the free farm alphabet crafts, where children make animal crafts while working on their letters.
