Free Spanish English Fruit & Vegetable Flashcards
Starting small when learning a new language with young learners is a great idea. I like to start with things like flash cards. They are easy to flip through and you have a visual aid to help you and your student.
I use flashcards in many different ways. First with both language on the flash card with the image, then with 1 language on the flash card and lastly just an image. I then move on turning these cards into exciting games.

Why Use Flashcards for Learning?
Flashcards are a great tool for young learners because they help with,
- Memory retention – Repetition helps reinforce new words.
- Visual learning – Bright, colorful images make it easier to associate words with objects.
- Bilingual development – Kids can learn both English and Spanish at the same time.
- Hands-on learning – Flashcards are perfect for games, matching activities, and so much more!
What’s Included in the download?
In this set of free printable flashcards I have included a variety of fruits and vegetables, each labeled in both English and Spanish. There are 116 flashcards, of course this is a lot of flashcards! Start with some of the items you use regularly and work from there.

Some examples include:
- Apple – Manzana 🍎
- Banana – Plátano 🍌
- Carrot – Zanahoria 🥕
- Tomato – Tomate 🍅
I’ve also included some spices and common herbs.
For the main flashcards I have used just “fresa” and not “la fresa” because this makes sense as it’s more like a dictionary-style label rather than a full sentence. Once you progress on to forming sentences you will upgrade to the extra set that is provided.

How These Flashcards Fit into a Language Learning Routine
- Day 1-2: Introduce 5-10 new words with full flashcards (both languages).
- Day 3-4: Use flashcards with just the Spanish word for recall.
- Day 5: Test with image-only cards.
- Weekly Review: Mix new and old words into games.
Extra Ideas for Making Flashcards FUN!
Here are a few creative ways to use these flashcards at home or in the classroom:
- Matching Game – Lay out the cards and have kids match the Spanish word with the English word.
- Memory Game – Turn the cards upside down and take turns flipping them over to find pairs.
- Pronunciation Practice – Say each word out loud and encourage kids to repeat after you.
- Scavenger Hunt – Have kids find the real-life fruits and vegetables that match the flashcards.

Why an Extra set of free flashcards.
I have also included a set of flash cards with definite article for the Spanish. Definite articles in Spanish are used more often than in English, especially when talking about general concepts, preferences, or specific things. In English, the definite article is “the” (e.g., the apple).
In Spanish, the definite articles are:
- el (for singular masculine nouns) → el perro (the dog)
- la (for singular feminine nouns) → la fresa (the strawberry)
- los (for plural masculine/mixed-gender nouns) → los gatos (the cats)
- las (for plural feminine nouns) → las manzanas (the apples)
Remember to start small with a few cards and then work up from there!
Organization Tip: Laminate the flashcards for durability and store them in a small box or on a ring for easy access!
